North Hollywood Residence
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
As the landscape architect of a residential property in North Hollywood, Karelaine redesigned the existing landscape into outdoor living spaces suitable for relaxing or entertaining.
The goal of the project was to transform the existing property into a refreshed garden, providing a sanctuary not only for people but for birds and pollinators as well. The upgraded landscape features sustainable, eco-friendly elements including drip irrigation for water conservation, native and drought-tolerant plants, wildflowers for wildlife, and edible gardens with vegetables, herbs, and citrus.
Conceptual Design.
Based on the client's goals and the vision for the project, the conceptual design was created to highlight various zones on the property dedicated to specific plants and purposes. These zones included a native wildlife woodland, a potager garden with edible plants and wildflowers, a citrus grove, a fragrance garden, and areas dedicated to attracting birds, butterflies, and pollinators.
The conceptual master site plan was first drafted in Rhino and then illustrated in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The final presentation for the client was created using Adobe InDesign and features the zones with their corresponding plant palettes.
Design Development.
During the design development phase, a more detailed overall site plan was created with specific plant placement, corresponding symbols, images, and species names. Similar to the conceptual design, the presentation was organized by the various garden zones throughout the property.
Rhino was used to draft the overall site plan. The final presentation for the client was created using Adobe InDesign and features the zones with their corresponding plant palettes.
Construction Drawings.
The construction drawing set was drafted in Rhino and included all the technical maps and detailed information for the landscape construction crew. Drawings included the overall site plan, the hardscape plan with dimensions and keynotes, and the planting plan with plant species and locations.
